Middenbur

General Information

In the very heart of Hydenbur stands the town of Middenbur. The town itself is built upon a vast network of mining caves which also serves as their main source of income. Many of those who live here end up working in the mines, giving the town the knickname of 'Stoneville.'

Demographics

The people of Middenbur are predominantly mine workers, with much of the populace looking down on those who work safer, less hard-working jobs. Many of the miners will are not fond of those who wander into town as, in their opinion, only those who have done a hard day's work have earned the right to properly rest. As such, most of these poeple worship The Sun.

There are some, however, who strive for a better life. These people save as much as possible in hopes of leaving the terribly frigid mines and making a living doing other things, either for their families of for themselves.

Government

While the Hydenbur Hierocracy has a presence in Middenbur, their core governing body is the Middenbur Mining company. These mining magnates enjoy some of the finer things in life and enforce strict working conditions that are loved and hated in equal measure.

Industry & Trade

The Middenbur mines are rich in ores, gemstones and stone. These are the town's main exports and are used throughout not only Hydenbur but also neighbouring Mitlind.

History

Several decades ago, the miners of Middenbur formed a union to fight against oppresive working conditions. This resulted in a complete shake-up within the management of the Middenbur Mining company leading to more flexible working conditions. While the conditions of work have become much safer for the miners, the hours required have become more rigorous. To ensure a steady flow of material is extracted from the mines, miners are required at all hours of the day and through the night.

In the last decade and a half, the conditions have slowly deteriorated as mineshafts fall into disrepair. As veins run dry the mine shafts become abandoned, these abandoned mines have become the dens of several nasty creatures that have begun preying upon the miners as a steady flow of food.
