Gishpa Settlement in Kyrn | World Anvil

Gishpa

The town of Gishpa, located in the County of Crysayth, in the Empire of Kyrnia is world famous for the Ioun Mines.   The only known location where Ioun stones can be found is the town of Gishpa in northern Crysayth. The town grew up around the mining operation that was first created by Vesper Ioun, an elven wizard who discovered the remarkable magic properites of these stones. Vesper was looking for another magical ingrediant that was thought ot be in the area, when she stumbled on some of the stones that now bear her name lying on the surface near her camp. After examining the stones more closely, and spending a few days experimenting on them, she discovered their remarkable properites, and when she returned to the capital Preang, she secured the rights to the area that now makes up Gishpa, and hired miners to mine for the stones.   As the town grew, and the money from selling the stones, and the magicical know-how to use them, came pouring in, walls were added, and underground vaults built to house the stones until they could be sold. While the stones have an inate magic in them, without knowing the secrets to unlock that magic, the stones are less valuable, so the security for that information is much stronger than the security around the vaults.   The town sits on the side of a hill with a curtain wall surrounding the entire hill, and a small keep sitting on top. The mine entrance is located about half-way up the hill, and is protected by it's own gatehouse now.   The population of Gishpa is mostly miners, with shops and services catered around such needs. As the mining has done well, more and more miners have started families and the town has grown, leading to a large number of homes outside the walls as well, and supporting farms too.   Lady Vesper still rules the town, although most daily oversight is conducted by her council, which includes the Lead Miner, the Captain of the Watch, two elected aldermen, and the Bishop of the Temple of the Light. One of the Aldermen is elected from inside the walls, and the other from outside the walls, to make sure both communities are represented.
