Dragonborn

A Dragonborn usually towers over their friends of other races. Their powerful frames are covered in metallic scales of almost any hue, but most commonly from copper to gold. Several ethnicities exist, each attuned to an ancestral draconic type from which they received their elemental breath, but their color does not always match their breath, and ethnic groups haven't been divided into separate clans for many ages.

Dragonborn can be found in most places around the world today, but their numbers are strongest in their homeland Bralis, where their ancient cities have stood as oases of safety from the dangers of many eras.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dragonborn eggs are carried for 2 months, but need to be incubated for 4 months until they hatch. A child's egg tooth is a favorite memento for the parents, and the egg shell is also kept until the coming of age ceremony in which the new adult ritually discards it along with the rest of their childhood and receives their true name.

Growth Rate & Stages

Hatchlings are able to walk within hours after birth. Dragonborn mature very quickly, growing to full size after around just a decade, and have a voracious appetite as they grow during this period.

Dragonborn have a wide variety of face shapes, horn types and placements, whiskers, ear fans, and crests. These traits, which make dragonborn faces much more variable than many other humanoids, are considered to be gifts from their draconic ancestors, and are often accentuated with custom-made jewelry during formal occasions.

Naming Traditions

A childhood nickname, symbolic of the follies of their youth, is discarded once a dragonborn reaches adulthood and their clan gifts them their true name.

Which specific features are beautiful depends on the particular ethnicity, but clean, lustrous scales and an imposing stature are common ideals. True dragons are the pinnacles of beauty, the ultimate form to aspire to. Shoulder pieces resembling wings are one popular way to emulate the draconic, as well as headdresses with elaborate horns.

Common Myths and Legends

One popular children's story is that of Teeteroo, a dragonborn who was so timid that he never even broke his own eggshell. The cautionary tale teaches that it's much more important to be decisive and bold than to let a fear of offending others paralyze you.
