Rolando Dominador

Rolando is from the small village of San Miguel that worshipped Tymora.. He joined the military at 16 and served for 7 so he could see the world while protecting his village. But after hearing news of his village’s impending doom, he deserted his post after failing to obtain permission to leave. By the time he had gotten there everything was razed to the ground, the bodies of the villagers all piled in an ashen heap. It was in this despair that he chanced upon the holy symbol of Tymora in the burnt ruins of the shrine and he was granted power over the death domain. . With no loved ones left, he began to travel aimlessly without any leads to go on except a trinket he found near the bodies belonging to the perpetrators. At present he has found himself fighting to prevent a merger of the material plane with the Shadowfell.

Personal history

He was an only child but grew up with many cousins around his age. His family life was very warm and he was especially close with his grandfather Joaquin. Joaquin often told Rolando stories of his past travels as a sailor, igniting his curiosity towards the wider world. Rolando’s favorite stories were about Martina, his grandmother. She was the last person chosen in the village to serve Tymora as a cleric, but no one had been chosen since then. At a certain age the children are evaluated at Tymora’s shrine every year and like all the children since the time of Martina, Rolando was not chosen to be a cleric. Rolando still wanted to travel as he had been born with a dragonmark just like his grandmother and Joaquin always told him that the children born in this village with the dragonmark were meant to travel. Lost an arm after failing in a trial from the Raven Queen. Led an enemy (Czerna) into a base of operations and failed to keep him from escaping.

Mental Trauma

PTSD from his time as a soldier and the razing of his village. Very paranoid of teammates dying (even more so after Joran) as it causes memories of his time in the military to resurface. Never wants to go back to the Underdark.

When even tempered, he is good at assessing his options and choosing how to proceed in a logical manner. He is actually quite delighted with fighting as his instincts are sharp and the thrill makes him forget his troubles.

Rolando believes people can only tread on the path laid in front of them as countless lives are only ants crawling around at rock bottom, groping blindly in the dark. He pushes on because he knows that if there really is a reason for why he still lives while his loved ones died, he will find it (or make it) himself on the path laid before him. Rolando has great belief in fateful connections and tries to do good for others to embody what he was taught growing up (he loves a good fight though). However, he understands that when death looms over him and his comrades, one must always be prepared to do what it takes to live on.

Motivation

Rolando lives on because he only wants to know the reason why he has to live and his loved ones are all dead. Will he get revenge or will he not? Does he live for another purpose instead? This is why he fights to stop the merger with the Shadowfell as he has finally found a new purpose to fight for with comrades that may give him the answer he's looking for. He hasn't quite given up hope on getting revenge, although the time spent investigating without a lead has left him frustrated
