The Imperium

Tenelean Divider

To get to the wall, you must face the overwhelming firepower of this empire. To get past the wall, you must face the wall itself.

The Ultimate Border

It was the year 1,520 on the continent of Westerin. War broke out across the whole land as the Tenelean Empire struck every other country here. Their emperor's goal: take the resource rich lands around them to add to the iron war machine, then achieve total conquest. Unfortunately, the empire never achieved that second step. The imperial armies moved too fast for the resources they both already had and acquired to be harnessed and supplied to the front.   In the first year and a half of this war, the empire had already tripled its size. However, their supplies and war hosts ran thin, and the war effort lost its momentum.   This war dragged on for another three years as the empire fought to make a breakthrough against the city states of Gohn, the Silver Piece Collective, the kingdom of Ravenna, and most of all, their ancient elvish rivals of Endolin in the west. But in Gohn, they were stalemated at the canyon of Pon Ridge. In Ravenna, stalemated at the city of Podun. In the SPC, stalemated on the coasts of Dauphin Island. And in Endolin, stalemated between the edges of the Spikestone Canyon and the Moroko Forest.   The war only continued to lose its support before all sides inevitably came together to discuss the armistice that followed, officially bringing an end to the war. But, it was in these prior years on the Endolin front that the empire constructed a fortress longer, bigger, and more ferocious than any that had ever existed on Westerin before. This monstrous wall stretched all the way from the Starpeak Lake in the north to the coasts of the Coral Depths in the south, tens of miles in length.   Its construction was a show of force against the Endolish people, both to keep them out of the empire and to remind them of the ultimate strength Tenelean possessed. It has stood for over forty years. This is the Imperium.

The Layout

The foundation of the wall is constructed out of numerous layers of hardened stone and Tenelean Iron. The wall is just over ninety feet in all areas.   Towers of the same material rise high and jut out of the wall every one-hundred feet from one end of the wall to the other. In these towers an exotic mix of howitzers, ballistas, and trebuchets are built into fixed positions both in, out, and on top of these towers.   The side of the wall facing the Moroko Forest in Endolin is lined with treacherous and sharp spokes to defend against attackers who would seek to scale the walls. At the base of the wall on this side, platforms and elevated positions make readied use for legionnaires, archers, and arquebusiers stationed to guard the wall.   On the Tenelean side of the Imperium, barracks, officer houses, training grounds, blacksmiths, and workshops run all along it. These installations were added over time since the Imperium's construction, but the numerous ranks of the imperial corps always stationed here, each one was consistently busy.   Only one gate filters traffic from one side of the wall to the other. It is called the Iron Gates, a collection of three different portcullis gates that stand in the center of the Imperium. Crafted purely from Tenelean Iron, the Iron Gates are tougher than any single segment of the wall itself. Not to mention, an attacker who hopes to clear one gate will have two more to deal with just beyond that.

The Leadership

The Imperium was an idea originally thought of by the crazed war industrialist, Aldrich Asimov in an attempt to keep the war effort alive and his war royalties high; keep the people focused on the military industry, and perhaps the war support would never fade.   But it did, even as the Imperium was celebrated empire-wide upon its completion. Though he was the architect, full jurisdiction of the Imperium, its upkeep, and its defense fell to Wilhelm Boulderdash, the imperial officer of his Imperial Howitzer Division at the time.   He was there for a time, but when he retired from his position, the new imperial officer of the division, Fredericus Strepo became the new head over the Imperium, and he has overseen the maintenance of it ever since.

Personally, I didn't much like being in charge of that wall anyway. Too much quiet and not enough boom, if you ask me.

Imperial Howitzers

Cannon technology in the Tenelean Empire was perfected by the late imperial officer Wilhelm Boulderdash. But, it was originally acquired from the Silver Piece Collective. An imperial howitzer uses gatpowder excavated from Dauphin Island to propel heavy cast iron balls through the air at dangerous speeds.   They were originally used by Wilhelm Boulderdash in his campaign against the Heartened Soul Monastery, in which he stunned the continent by bringing down the Seven Gates. Their power has drastically overshadowed the empire's traditional siege equipment, becoming the most produced form of siege weaponry after the close out of the War of Turmoil.   The imperial howitzer division, commanded by Fredericus Strepo is the single-most dangerous military division in Tenelea to date, and a howitzer's high capacity for destruction is the sole reason why. The Imperium, naturally, supports a large garrison of this equipment.

Boom. It's that simple.

Imperial Ballistae

Ballistae have been used by all different cultures of Westerin across all time, and for good reason. It is a massive, easy to use crossbow that fires heavy bolts in high speeds. But, with the popularity and effectiveness of imperial howitzers, ballistae in the empire are beginning to become obsolete.   Only a few remain between the various siege armies of the empire. And even then, it is very few. The majority of ballistae that still exist remain affixed within the towers of the Imperium as a defense weapon.

Just like us people, things get old and lose their use. We are at the point where ballistae are going through the same thing.

Neutralizer Trebuchets

Throughout the history of the Tenelean Empire since its militarization under Zara Civilius III's rule, no weapon has been more feared than the empire's catapults called neutralizer trebuchets. These powerful catapults can hurl payloads imbued with the magic of its war mages for over a thousand feet. Once it strikes, a powerful burst of force is emitted from it, causing the nearby area around it to suffer under the same impact.   Neutralizer trebuchets made their most historic moment during the first battle of the War of Turmoil at Lucodonus. Its attacks toppled the city and defeated the entire Endolish garrison stationed there long before the legionnaires marched in to capture it.   Unlike ballistae, neutralizer trebuchets still hold strategic value in the imperial corps. But unlike cannons, they are also not in high demand either. This equipment exists in a middle ground that people are both intrigued and unsure of what to do with them going forward.

Neutralizer trebuchets are like a part of a body. Take it away, and the body doesn't feel whole anymore.
