Session 11 - Yibyiru and the Feast of Flesh
General Summary
Early in the morning Booty hears rustling outside her window. She quietly edges down the stairs of the The Battered Beetle inn. Due to her callipygian assets, Booty knocks several bottles down with her tail feathers as they graze along the wall. The ruckus of Booty's scoot ignites the hot temper of Darla, still suffering from her terror ridden sleeplessness. Booty walks to the well outside and looks inside to see an unnaturally deep well leading into an inky black void. Darla and the rest of the party reluctantly follow suit to help save Jason Drifk from his goblin kidnappers.
After engineering a rigging system to lower their pets down, the party walks through the passageway that someone had dug into the side of the town's well. Eventually the adventurers are led into a small antechamber that overlooked a vast cavern of cascading walkways and precipices. As they look over the cavern, they spot the little human boy being dragged past a strange round door at the base of the cavern. Worried that there may have been too many goblins to handle, Booty utilizes a magic roman candle (which she aptly named the Booty Blaster) to melt the goblin defenses.
Upon cracking the code of the round door, the party is shown a Sigil for Queen of Decay. A symbol of a skull shaped beetle stretched over a waning moon hovers in front of the party for a few moments before they enter the next chamber. A lone Drow sits in one of the many slave cages in the next room, waiting to be sacrificed. Davwyn utilizes his portable hole to pull the dark elf out of her cage but reluctantly releases her, at the request of the other party members. The Drow warrior introduces herself as Akorah Kilsik and urges the party to hurry towards the sacrificial hill in the next chamber, if they desire to save their little friend. She offers to help the party in exchange for coming with her to the Underdark, which they agree to. As Akorah says this, a giant column of fire erupts from the ceiling and a strong odor of sulfur billows through the air.
The party trudges up the hill cautiously, hiding themselves behind a small earthen edifice at the entrance of the sacrificial chamber. A demon standing 20 feet high paces back and forth as she speaks to several individuals sitting at an ornately set banquet table. At the center sits a male goblin, a golden female aasimar, and a gruff looking tortle; alongside the acolytes sit three drow and three humans. Akorah recognizes the three drow as her mother, older sister, and youngest brother.
The demon, identified as Yibyiru, begins conjuring forth grotesque dishes made from poisonous plants, creatures, and unknown horrors. The acolytes proudly gorge themselves with the disgusting cuisine while the other "sacrifices" choke down the food against their will. During the Feast of Flesh, Moxt Bemin brings down a bolt of lightening to halt the process. Becoming aware of the party's presence, Yibyiru holds the heroes against their will, forcing them to watch the horrid transformation of the acolytes into Thralls for the The Queen of Decay. Some of the party is able to resist the demon's hold but their heroic actions leave the demon unfazed and undistracted from her ultimate goal of completing the ceremony. The heroes flail about wildly, attempting to stop the demon, but they are only successful in demonstrating how powerless they truly are in the grand scheme of things.
Eventually Yibyiru accelerates the transformation process by forcing the acolytes to drink her demonic blood and then pulls two of the Thralls into a portal, for the heroes to reckon with another day. The goblin, Thrall Pestilence, utilizes his army of writhing insects and plant life to drive the party to their knees. The buried sacrifices come to life as undead zombies, similar to those seen in the woods outside Standridge. Akorah holds her dying mother, leaving Akorah with her final bitter sweet words "you were always my favorite." The party defeats Thrall Pestilence and frees the remaining villagers who are then escorted back up the well to Standridge.
Where are the converted Thralls now? How does this recent outbreak affect the island of Kurnst? How does Kurnst's economy and pantheon play into Arnon's scheme? And why the heck does Big Booty Judy have a magma cannon!
