Episode 32 - Into the Belly of the Beast

The party wakes in their new chateau, in their respective quarters. After his eight hour concentration spell Moxt takes an easy day to catch his breath, Vaceren follows up at Pen and Parchment to determine if his order is ready yet, Klork purchases several new items including a staff of Summon Staff, and Davwyn attempts to investigate a strange nearby building called Maximillian's Mystical Market of Magical Mysteries. Davwyn calls for assistance from Vaceren and Moxt to help him infiltrate the building as it appears to be cloaked in some very strong illusion magics. Moxt transforms the little brewer into a spider. Davwyn scouts out the building with Klork, but neither adventurer can quite put their finger on exactly what is going on at the abandoned building. Davwyn swears to return to investigate further after they party deals with Dr. William Birkin.   The party discusses the concept of starting their own business but appear to share different aspirations for what that investment looks like. Some believe a brothel might provide a lucrative return while others consider a more simple approach of owning a tavern or bed and breakfast. Vaceren visits the Bellowvale bank to secure a loan, which he does for 20,000 GP at a negotiated 4% interest rate. Davwyn seeks out Norbert Tre'bron in an attempt to locate bids from skilled contractors to renovate the Wit's End. Feeling compelled to control his lycanthropy, Moxt paruses the campus of Speyside University in search of someone who may be interested in studying his condition. Moxt locates a woman working the front desk of the registrar's office who advises that she can attempt to contact a list of possible professors who may be interested in helping him.    While back at the Wit's End, Vaceren once again reaches into the ether and speaks with a strange entity concerning information surrounding Dr. Birkin's office. After gaining some preliminary information, the party gathers themselves outside the Wesker Industries building. Vaceren subtly dispatches a spell that allows him to see into the building, while hiding outside in the bushes. Vaceren sees what appears to be a bloody crime scene at the front desk with streaks of blood leading into a black wall. He also sees an access code on Dr. Birkin's desk, on the second floor. The party infiltrates the office without any issue and determine that something had killed and dragged the staff into an area behind the blank wall. Eventually realizing there was a hidden elevator the party descends into the real laboratory below.   The party locates a deceased scientist with a note indicating that experiment #626 had escaped captivity and was ransacking the lab. The heroes overcome a halway of traps, see what appear to be experimental pods with deceased adventurers, and a wall of perfect metallic cubes lining the 125 foot halway. They later encounter strange mechanical creatures later identified as 626 that nearly kill Davwyn. Finally, the party learns that there are four missing key cards that must be inserted into a large vault door in order for them to exit the lab. There appear to be several separate halways leading into individual observatories. These observatories are connected to individual, unique large scale terrariums with what appear to be twisted experiments, similar to 626. The party decides to investigate a cage that appeared to house an ancient forest with inhabitants titled "Apostate Kenku." Knowing an ambush was eminent, the party decides to cast fireball and nearly burn the forest down. Klork additionally used his new staff of Summon Staff to call forth 10 ladies of the night, instructing them to twerk on the tree and make lots of noise for the Kenku to replicate, thus giving away their position. The party swiftly slay the Kenku, though Moxt and Klork suffer significant injuries. Vaceren locates the body of a scientist along with his key card, and a note stating it was theorized the Kenku would stay away from harsh smells.   What other monstrosities or aberations does this laboratory hold? How will the party survive these creatures that were developed to kill? And what lies behind the reinforced vault doors?
