Travok Ulfgar Character in Krynn | World Anvil

Travok Ulfgar

Travok's Research The Blue Crystal Staff Weight 2 lbs. Origin Unknown   The staff I, received? in Wave Echo Cave. A most powerful artifact that I know very little of, unfortunately. It seems to be a staff of true healing, none the likes this world has seen for many a century. The miracles of healing it preforms is, well, godlike. The method it came to me was most interesting. Much like when I found the medallion that lies always around my neck. I was seemingly transported back in time. Or maybe perhaps seeing a vision of what once was. Through a glade, in the middle of a forest stood a temple of beautiful white stone, pure perfection. Must have been made by dwarfs. White marble pillars lead into large doors made of pure silver. Inside, bathed in blue light, stood a statue of pure beauty, yet with a face of impossible sadness. The rest of my memory is blurred, almost like a dream. Twice now I was called to this Temple, first the medallion, now the staff. Voices and visions of darkness filled my mind and she spoke. She spoke of Evil, that it was beginning to tip the scales. We dont have much time to prepare. I must learn more about this staff and the old gods if we are to destroy or halt this coming darkness. I fear many a life will be lost in the coming future, I need to move quickly. From what I understand (which is not much admittingly) Not only was the the staff made to heal, but to fight that evil. If this is a weapon against the darkness, I was not informed how to use it. Though I have seen the wonder of its healing abilities. It seems to have a mind of its own, acting when it wishes. A few times my spells and calls for aid have fizzled, and otherdoms used to incredible effect. When not in use the staff seems to a nonmagical eye retain the form of an old walking staff. But when the power flows through it, and into me the staff transforms into a six-foot long rod of unflawed blue crystal. Crowned with an ornamental headpiece, resembling two crescent moons, connected at the back. In the center of the piece is fist sized flawless blue sapphire.   Who am I to stand before pure evil? I must try, for I was chosen for a reason I believe I need to learn more, I feel the fate of Krynn on my shoulders.   With over a year of travel, I have begun to understand and comprehend some of its power. And I cant help but feel like its power is fading, or not what it could be. I pray every night for what I should do, what path I am to walk.   She spoke to me again, I think. In my dreams, though I cannot remember what she says. I have been having recurring dreams of a library in the Northern Wastes. I think I will travel their to further my research into this staff and the old gods.   I found it! an ancient tome in the north, guarded by an old gargoyle, gave me a few bruises it did. I think I will hold onto some of its hide. The tome was one of the old gods, there was only one name I could understand. Its her, it almost glowed off the damn book! I was afiard it would catch fire. Her name is more beautiful than I could have imagined, I know for sure its her.   Mishakal Filled with pure happiness and joy upon learning her name, I was given a choice it seems. I believe I chose correctly, the gods never make much sense anyway. I choose healing. Me and my faith feel stronger than ever. I am set on my path to destroy evil and bring balence once again.   The tome spoke of many things, half of which I cant read and the other I can not comprehend. I know not. Though I believe I have found the staffs rightful resting place, maybe that was my quest? to return what was lost. I say I found it but in reality I only know that it actually has one, I know not where that might be. I think I will travel now, spreading the true word of the gods, gather a few more books, and start on my smithing trade, lets get crafting! Solace here I come. I can almost smell Otik's ale from here.   After many years of travel I still believe it is slowly losing its power, or just not what it could be. I must find its rightful resting place. Maybe then I will learn what my next goal in life is. I am sure it holds many other abilities, but for now I need to research.   Abilities The possessor can use the staff to heal but I understand that sometimes evil must be confronted directly. In those times, the staff can function as a +1 quarterstaff in combat. It can cast miracles of healing at no strain to my staminia it seems. I was able to cast cure wounds up to lvl 3 a few times before the staff refused to work again for many day. It seems to have the ability to cure any wound, even regrow lims to a point. On my travels I was able to cure a poor child of his many diseases. The staff also once warned me of a poisoned drink someone gave me in a bar. Who am I to turn down free drink! I must be more careful. Along with the calming warmth that flows through my body, I seem to be able to pass that power on to other creatures, curing them of their fear.   A Dark Homecoming In my homecoming I find many things not as they were. Haven has exploded in size! must be around 15,000 people there now. I wonder how old Tolben is doing. Sales are good at the festival, but every year things seem to get worse. Solace has changed in my absence. The Seekers, a misguided religious sect of questionable sincerity, have become the temporal rulers of Solace, my home, governing the region from the nearby Lordcity of Haven. The Seekers bode ill, I hope not all in their ranks are blind to truth. Rumors of war and whispers of monsters and death circulate among the farmers and townsfolk in hushed voices. The High Theocrate, who "protects" Solace, is a pushover. I hear talk of him hiring thugs to protect Solace. Solace has changed, and that change promises to become even more drastic. In my years of travel I have been careful in who I tell of the Staff. Though in the last year I openly traveled spreading the word of the old gods. Though a few good souls listened and seemed to believe, I fear word has gotten out. Though I know not how. Last year I was even almost robbed by a man looking for my very staff! Thankfully it retained its walking staff form. Im sure I was careful, how could word have traveled so fast?. I then began to listen in on wispers and rumors across the lands on my way home. From what I gathered someone wants this staff very very badly. Saying it was stolen! This staff was given to me, I stole nothing. But I doubt anyone would believe that. What I find intriguing is the stolen part, from where? maybe in that I can find its true resting place, where it belongs. These rumors of war frighten me. Maybe... just maybe... time has ran out
