Blue Horns Species in Kruos | World Anvil

Blue Horns

Scholars consider it a great mystery how indigenous fauna came to be on Kruos long before the lands had been explored. The assumption is that they were created by gods but its unknown why those gods had created animals and not humanoid creatures. Nevertheless, the Blue Horns in the Cerulean Fields of southern Fiera are one of the most notable species that explorers first encountered as they spanned the world.   Blue Horns are huge beasts, even larger than elephants, with a deep blue fur and a single horn protruding from their head just above the eyes. Terrifying at first sight and with a tendency to roar fearsomely when approached, it was quite some time before the peoples near by learned that these intimidating creatures were actually quite docile unless provoked.   Over time the people if Fiera learned that the Blue Horns made excellent livestock for use on the many farms that dot the Cerulean fields. Possession of a single Blue Horn was enough to make a farm incredibly productive as acres of land could be ploughed in a fraction of the time it would take for horses or other livestock. Having a Blue Horn was also an excellent deterrent to predators that would be likely to raid farms in search of chickens and other easy prey. Despite their huge size the Blue Horn is an incredibly agile and perceptive creature and even foxes and other small predators give them a wide berth.   The domestication of the Blue Horn is what led to the Cerulean fields becoming the breadbasket of northern Kruos and the affluence of Fiera as a nation. As with all things that are valuable, those that do not have it will covet it. Over the years more than a few of the clans in neighboring Omath have sent raiding parties into Fiera to steal the great beasts. Its is a testament to their ferocity when provoked that very few of the Blue Horns have been taken alive and far more raiders have died than their quarry. While it is inevitable that raids will occasionally take place, in modern times it is considered too costly an endeavor for all but the most desperate and raids are rare.
