Disaster / Destruction
A tribe of Dresnids, the Daahkens, traverse the Dan Verig Mountains and begin a conquest across Barakon never before seen in this world. Their devastation caused the irreversible decline of the Morosian Empire.
By the late 600s AR, the Daahken Dresnid tribe had risen to prominence, earning both power and enemies in equal measure. Dominating the Southern Dresnid Desert, they were the largest and most formidable tribe in the region. However, their ascension made them bitter rivals of every other Dresnid faction in the area. According to legend, in the 670s, the young Khan of the Daahkens, Reijann Khogal, was visited by a vision from the god Akhmahl, who promised unimaginable riches waiting beyond the Dan Verig Mountains.
Embracing the nomadic traditions of the Dresnids, Reijann Khogal made a bold and unprecedented decision: to lead the entire tribe on a migration through the perilous mountain range. After years of grueling travel, the Daahkens emerged, conquering and settling in the Podursan city of Nadhour.
It was in Nadhour, in the year 681 AR, that the great scourge of the world was unleashed.
Reijann Khogal, now known as The Great Chosen, gathered an ever-expanding horde of Dresnids. They swept across the plains of Barakon in a relentless wave of pillaging, razing, and plundering. Efforts by Morosia to buy their peace with gold and silver proved futile; the Daahkens had no interest in mere wealth. Instead, they relied on their unparalleled mastery of mobile cavalry and chariot warfare, making them nearly invincible in open battle.
Yet, their strength had limits. Their momentum faltered when their supply lines were severed and their foes avoided direct confrontation. The Daahken conquest, which had seemed unstoppable, finally culminated in 789 AR during the Siege of Akrainus. It was a Pyrrhic victory: while they managed to claim the fortified port city, the cost was staggering—over one million Daahken lives were lost, including both warriors and tribespeople.
This catastrophic siege marked the end of their unrelenting invasions. The Daahkens dispersed across their newly acquired lands, trading their nomadic roots for a more settled existence.
