Unraveling the world of Faerûn was the great event known as "The Sundering". The fabric that held the multiverse together tore, causing great portals to sink lands, swallowing them whole as the planes began to converge, causing horrors, elemental, demonic or celestial alike to rise from the obscure corners of the realm, scarring the Material plane irreparably.

Unraveling the world of Faerûn was the great event known as "The Sundering". The fabric that held the multiverse together tore, causing great portals to sink lands, swallowing them whole as the planes began to converge, causing horrors, elemental, demonic or celestial alike to rise from the obscure corners of the realm, scarring the Material plane irreparably. Though all would suggest the final days of the realm had finally arrived, the gods that watched over vowed to step in to answer the plea of the vast ecosystem and all that lived therin. They stood against the ever-growing chaos as the world began to crumble. Over the centuries to come, the world would grow terribly weak as the gods' powers began to waver. Many perished over the years, diefic and mortal alike. With little recourse, many powerful gods gave themselves to the reconstruction of the world by splitting the once whole realm into smaller demiplanes, all connected in the cosmology of a new world.    The gods who gave themselves for the world's reconstruction became worshipped as the Greater Pantheon of the new realm, dubbed after an alias of the god of gods, Asgorath, who's sacrifice shaped the very foundation of the newly reborn cosmos, the realm of Aio. It's on this new world that mortality began to regrow itself.   The gods of the Greater Pantheon forever bound themselves to the Outer Planes, too much of their strength drained for them to materialize in the material realm. The gods left the fate of the new world in hands of it's peoples, for their time as it's caretakers has passed. Leaving that duty in the children of Asgorath, the cosmic dragons with the powers to travel the very veil that separated the planes as their caretakers of the new reality.   Despite the gods' best efforts, many of the threats that ate away at the realm of Faerûn still live. Though many lay in deep, possibly eternal slumber, some scheme in the farthest reaches of the planes waiting to resumed their astral conquest.
