The Skywatchers

The Skywatchers also known as the Firehearts were an adventuring party of note during the Age of Heroes in Korrisian History. The party dealt with the Feywild Crisis and assisted in calming tensions between the Kingdoms of Drang and Keoland. The Skywatchers approached all situations with attempts at nobility and doing the right thing, there were severe moments of uncertainty that led to further chaos, but in the end the Skywatchers had the right intent. Based primarily in the village of Cryllor, the party dealt with cultist activity that would end up being related to the Cult of Bhaal attempting to renew his power, and unleash him once more onto the Material Plane. This activity would be related to the Feywild Crisis, as the Dead Three were hoping to trigger a war against their deific cousins in the Prime Pantheon, this was halted by the Skywatchers when the Archfey of Winter, Andurian was released, then promptly re-imprisoned before he could even leave his fortress. This act earned the Skywatchers the blessings and support of the three other Archfey, who bestowed equipment and blessings upon the party members.   During battle, several members were shifted to the Shadowfell, in which they came across a now mortal Vecna, who assisted them in finding the mortal incarnation of the Raven Queen, Nera. Nera's deific counterpart was seemingly destroyed by Myrkul, who had usurped the throne as the god of the dead. Nera journeyed with the party and quickly developed skills far beyond a mortal's comprehension and proved to be a vital ally in the battle against the Dead Three.    The Skywatchers only ever had one betrayal, China Cat Sunflower, who was an original member of the group. China Cat was easily swayed by thoughts of chaos, and those thoughts were eventually twisted to murder when Bhaal offered China Cat his own blade, Kinslayer. China Cat naively trusted the deity and his blade, and it quickly twisted her mind until she became fervently loyal, declared her undying love to her new god, and was named Bhaal's Chosen on the Material Plane. China Cat would ambush the party in an attempt to kidnap and murder Nera, one of the party members. China Cat would be successful in thinning the number of Skywatchers and those who supported them, by murdering Peter Pandian in cold blood, and assassinating several government supporters in the Keoan and Drang Kingdoms. The remaining Skywatchers would track China Cat down and end her reign of terror once and for all, rescuing Nera.    The last major accomplishment of note was the Skywatchers unearthing the plot to release at least one of the Underlords, ancient aspects of Kormund the Dark God of Creation. The noble group attempted to stop these dark prisoners from being freed from their confinement, but ultimately their foes prevailed in awakening Rak Tulkhesh, known as the Rage of War. Nera, a member of the group was among the 200 mortals ritually sacrificed to shatter the chains holding the Underlord in place. Rak Tulkhesh was freed from his slumber under the old City of Calemdar, and he slaughtered the members of the Skywatchers present, and decimated the armies of Calemdar and Arcanum in the process. Many believe Rak Tulkhesh's onslaught opened the door for Overlord Aelzan to seize power in Calemdar in 465 AH, leading to the creation of the Empire of Korrisia and the Era of the Tyrant.   The adventuring party was made up of a diverse variety of adventurers, each coming from vastly different backgrounds but uniting under a single cause to protect as much as they could. Though their actions sometimes caused more trouble than they solved, the intent was heroic, and at the end of the day they accomplished their primary goals.

Disbandment

The organization was disbanded after the last active member of the Skywatchers was killed during the Battle of Old Calemdar in which Rak Tulkhesh, newly freed from his prison, attacked all in sight. During the battle, the last three members died battling the shard of a godly aspect. Rak Tulkhesh also killed Balthasar Lupindrian, Archmage of the College of Calemdar, and Everqueen Ammara of Alithanar.
