Occupational Spells and Harbingers Administration

The Occupational Spells and Harbingers Administration, known to most as OSHA is an extra-planar organization signed into law by King Lucas Ashglade I and established as a department in the Calemdarian College of Magic after King Ashglade's death. OSHA's mission is to "assure safe and healthy working conditions for working mercenaries and adventurers by setting and enforcing standards and by providing magical training, planar outreach, and spellcasting education & assistance." OSHA's workplace safety inspections have been shown to reduce injury rates and injury costs without adverse effects to quest contract numbers, magical item sales, challenge ratings, or guild survival.   King Lucas Ashglade I created what would become the OSHA known today due to the frantically growing numbers of adventurers, quests, and dangerous situations that would arise (both from the quest itself and the lack of strategic thinking on the side of the adventurers). The number of vaporizations had nearly tripled from normal statistics during the Age of Troubles, and had almost met numbers from the War of the Twins. King Ashglade named his court wizard, Theodoros Fizzbar, as the first Director of Magical Safety (later to become OSHA). Director Fizzbar was given a sizeable endowment of platinum, and was sanctioned by the Kingdom of Ashglade, Republic of Calemdar, and even the Masked Lords of Waterdeep. All three signed more and more resources to Director Fizzbar until the organization became a globe-spanning guild.   OSHA now employs hundreds of wizards and enforcers in over a dozen planes. Inspector-Wizards are dispatched during any intense magical event to ensure that spellcasters are following appropriate regulations, and will call in for Enforcers should the need arise to "aggressively educate" on regulations. In matters of extreme urgency, a Spell Regulator will be dispatched to close off an area to allow for investigation. The most commonly utilized method of Spell Regulators is a Prismatic Wall, but it will be aptly labeled with notices that all who pass by are to stay approx. 20 feet away for maximum safety.   The most common form of intervention by OSHA is the distribution of an OSHA Violation Ticket. After a spellcaster has accrued a number of tickets (varying based on the violations) a Wizard Enforcer may be dispatched to apprehend the spellcaster in order to turn them over to the Education Specialists. When this occurs, a spellcaster is mandated 100 hours of educational reading, lecturing, and even watching illusion-based media to expand their education on safe spellcasting. They are returned to the place of their choice along with their spellbook/spellcasting focus, but their item is tagged with a small orange tag with the words "MAGICAL LIABILITY" labeled on it. This tag notifies OSHA Senior Leadership of any major acquisitions of dangerous magic, such as a Wish or a Power Word Kill spell.    OSHA has continued to exist through the Age of Heroes and into the Era of the Tyrant, fully sanctioned by the Empire of Korrisia.

Structure

Director of OSHA

The Director is the head of the entire administration, and is appointed by majority vote between the several Associate Directors. The Director has the ability to affect policy change, create new divisions and departments of OSHA, has primary control of the budget, and is the final say in any decision. The Director serves for as long as they wish, or until there is a vote of no-confidence.   The current OSHA Director is Aluminius Brightseer, the former Associate Director of Transmutation.

Associate Director

The Associate Directors oversee the key areas of the Administration. Each Assoc. Dir. is appointed from the particular college of magic that they are responsible for managing.

Inspector-Wizard

The Inspector-Wizards are the primary workforce of OSHA. They are responsible for performing a variety of tasks to ensure that the use of magic in Korrisian Space is safe, authorized, and used appropriately. Most Inspector-Wizards are private about their homes, families, and friends out of fear of retaliation by petty spellcasters who are angered by any violations or warnings given.   An Inspector-Wizard is usually hired from a Magical College, but there have been exceptions made for those of the Sorcerous, Bardic, Druidic, and in the rarest cases warlock background, as they provide keen insight into other methods of spellcasting.

Enforcer Wizard

An Enforcer Wizard is one dispatched to apprehend a spellcaster who has continually received violations and has shown little to no effort in changing their methods. An Enforcer's role is to detain and remand the rogue spellcaster to OSHA's Reformative Education Specialists.
