The party, who now call themselves the Book Club, have traveled to Suisbium to follow a lead on one of the books stolen from the Ancient and Venerable Library of the Empire. There, the are wrapped up in an outbreak of the magical plague called the Bleeding. While there, they make the acquaintance of Terua Conrelua Banuac, the Awatcova of the Westmarch, whose husband was killed by the cursed book the Book Club had traveled to Suisbium to find. They also have to confront the Bleeding. They quickly discover the source. Shortly thereafter, they meet the gddess Glovia, who commands them to find the agents of Tilgūn responsible for the outbreak and kill them. The party does so. Hip becomes a Disciple of Glovia.
