Upon the death of Ubar̂ebus, a majority of the Catbalus tried to regain political control, arguing that Avavius was not eligible for the throne, since he was not of direct descent from Ubar̂ebus. The crisis ended with the wholesale slaughter of those opposing Avavius and the declaration that adoption by a R̂oldavus was the same as direct descent. This event marked the last vestige of independence by the Catbalus of Calpi.
