The Shard of Spirit

The Shard of Spirit is a unique item of great power. It was once part of an even more powerful artifact, and it is likely that if it were ever rejoined to the other Shards, it could reform that artifact - The Dragontablet of Da.

History

The Shard of Spirit came into being when The Dragontablet of Da broke upon the death of the Ethereal Greatwyrm Da the Glorious in 661 LE.

The Shard was snatched from the ruins of Da's citadel by a goblin raider in 871 LE. He was slain by his companions, and the Shard lay forgotten on a mountain trail in the Fön Mountains for seventy-two years, until it was picked up by a goliath of the Ranndau, a goatherd named Ru. Ru became the chief of his tribe, and the shard passed to his son, Ir. Ir died fighting a band of yeti, led by an ettin in 1009 LE. The ettin, a foul creature named Ronk, held the shard until his own death at the hands of Ithygši̋c warriors, ordered there by Geath Hyr Ci̋d̬aa, the Pasop of Sogcigdi, who covets the Shards of the Dragontablet of Da. It has lain in her secret vault - the Deep Vault of the Pasop - until very recently, when it was stolen from her by the adventuring troupe known as The Book Club.

Significance

The Shard of Spirit, powerful as it is on its own, is more significant in that it is one of four shards that make up the Dragontablet of Da. If reconstituted, they would become an artifact of incredible power.

Shard of Spirit

Other

Legendary The Shard must be attuned before use. If combined with the other tree Shards, the four become a new Artifact.

The Shard of Spirit is one of four broken shards of the Dragontablet of Da. It is embued with a portion of her essence. Individually, it is a wonder, but combined with the rest of her Dragontablet, it becomes enormously powerful, as it carries a fragment of the power of an Ethereal Dragon.

  • The Shard of Spirit alone has the following properties, which are only available if it is attuned:
  • The Shard has 12 charges that recharge at 1d12 charges daily at dawn. If the last charge is consumed, the shard becomes mundane for 1d20 days and then begins recharging as normal.
  • The attuned character does not age, and is immune to diseases, both magical and mundane, including lycanthropy.
  • If the attuned character is cannot be reduced to fewer than 1 hit point via necrotic or radiant damage. Other damage types function normally.
  • Once per solar month, you can expend all 12 charges to cast the 7th level spell Resurrection, requiring no material component. Doing so channels the very spirit of Da through the attuned creature, which renders them comatose for 3d10 days. No magic or spell or physical intervention can shorten this effect.
  • For the cost of 10 charges, the attuned character can cast Contact Other Plane.

In appearance, the Shard of Honor, like the other three shards, seems to be a broken piece of polished granite with a single rune etched into its face. The rune on this particular shard is the celestial rune that represents the concept of honor. This shard is, in very general terms, about 7 inches wide by 12 inches long and about 1 inch thick, weighing around 8 pounds.
