Pranagrena

Pranagrena   The Pranagrena is a coming of age ceremony found in the New Mandran nomads across Koleris. It's Origin is ancient and can be translated to "Spectral Death" Though this seems unrelated to the ritual itself as it is a celebration of the good things in life.   The Pranagrena is different from Tribe to tribe though some common threads can be found.
  1. The inclusion of a stranger
  2. A test against an animal
  3. A contest of wits
  4. Competetive eating
  5. Storytelling or song
  6. Remeberance of a fallen
The timing of the ritual is different for every tribe though usually around the same time of year within a given tribe. The Grey Clavus hold theirs during the month of Barrensky. It is held when a member of a tribe becomes old enough to participate in excursions from the main group often in mid teenage years. The inclusion of strangers is non optional, and the Pranagrena will not be held until strangers willing to participate are found. Participating in a Pranagrena is seen as a great honor and the participants will be known as "Pranari", and often afforded hospitality by the tribe and others.
I had the great honor of participating in the Pranagena of the Indigo Crows. A great fun event, though I was horrible at it. I could not catch the greased pigs to save my life. The young men and women I participated with still remind me of how I nearly fainted during the liver eating contest. I would recommend anyone to join in a Pranagena when given the chance, the title of Pranari is an unusual one but I cherish it nonetheless. ~~ Valikar the Wanderer
