Tower Mage

You are a functionary in the employ of one of the Mages' Towers. Most likely, you have at least some small magical talent. At the very least, you are aware of magical theorem. You have spent a portion of your life doing grunt work and research for the tower, and in return you've had access to tower resources.   Skill Proficiencies: Arcana, History   Tool Proficiencies : Either Alchemist’s Lab OR Herbalism Kit   Languages: Choose either the Old Tongue, Draconic, Infernal, Abyssal, or Celestial.   Equipment: Scroll Case, Spellbook case, Tower Robes outfit, Tower Signet, 5 candles, 10 sheaves of vellum, 1 pen w/ inkpot. Pouch containing 12 GP.   Feature: Law of Hospitality. Tower mages look after each other. Even peripherally aligned spellcasters will put up wayfaring mages for a night or two. It goes without saying that access to the associated tower and their libraries is also a perk.   Specialty – Tower Mages come from one of the three towers: The Tower of Gold (mages) The Tower of Brass (warmages), and the White Tower (Necromancers and Demonologists). Taking this background aligns you with one of the three towers, and though the other two are allies they are under no obligation to shelter or educate you.   Personality – Being part of a fraternal order of spellcasters has its perks, and its idiosyncrasies. Being immersed in magic this way can cause one to lose their common touch, and it’s easy to forget how nervous mages can make the mundanes.   Suggested Characteristics   d8   Personality Trait   1 I often forget that not everyone is as versed on the latest magical theorem as me.   2 I don’t like stupidity, and make no attempt to conceal my disgust.   3 I am obsessively curious about magical items or spells.   4 I’ve been blasted with a spell in training, giving me a skittish respect for raw power.   5 I love forbidden knowledge.   6 I would forget my head if it wasn’t attached.   7 I’m a gormly sort, energetic and intelligent.   8 I can boil the blood in your very veins.
