To win is to outlive your enemies
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The crown at its base is built up by the fey word for “life”, a words which contains dominant vowels that holds power over words below it. This word of power can then meld with a Monarch name, the crown setting itself as a new part of the Monarch design. The Monarch name already containing dominant vowels, which is what gives them their bond making abilities, now also gain the ability to stay dominant over the process of erosion. Not being able to break also means the Monarch gains access to more energy that used to be reserved for it’s bodily functions and keeping itself together, making the Monarchs body both immune to exfoliation and stronger magically.
The artifact also contains a whispered aura; a protective sphere of words of power. The first layer of whispers attracting Monarchs to its general location. The second layer keeping it in limbo between realms where it cannot be obtained by either carbon beings or fey. The last layer is a key, waiting for it’s condition to be fulfilled to then break the other whispers; the condition being the death, and collection, of a Monarch name in the area near its anchor location of Swansgard.
Significance
One of the main reasons for Monarchs to enter the world of the living is to obtain fey artifacts. However these powerful items are few and far between, and the monarch crown hidden in Swansgard has lead to the once insignificant fishing village on the coast of britain to attract multiple Monarchs. Though the thriving city and haven for humans are a mere side effect to the true significance of the crown, that being able to stop the exfoliation of the fey that wears it. So the Monarchs of Swansgard fight each other to gain the power of an ageless shell.
