Caermlyn Mire

Bordering the western side of Vyntior is the Caermlyn Mire. A very dull, wet and muddy place treated with suspicion and caution by the locals and rightly so as it can be quite hazardous. Wild beasts roam the mire, some of which can be quite hostile if encountered. Too many people have ventured into this area of wetland never to be seen again. Each night a strange fog rolls in to engulfs the village of Vyntior and the residents blame this for the series of unnerving nightmares they experience. Often waking them from slumber in cold sweats, the shouts and cries often waking the household of the afflicted person. Deep in the Caermlyn Mire lies and old abandoned tower on a mount that once stood as a watchtower, before the landscape changed and the waters crept in. Now it is nothing but a ruin but it is viewed as a dark place by those living nearby. Nobody knows exactly whether it is inhabited or not but some say a disturbing presence hangs in the air there. The bog is very sparsely populated with vegetation, what trees still stand are mostly dead husks, grasses try to take root and small patches of green can be seen, along with some heather shrubs, but for the most part it is just a dreary, grimy expanse of mud and decaying peat. Many forms of fungus scatter the land here, some of which are edible but care must be taken as others are highly toxic and can make people very sick and even cause death.
