The Ancients
Hailing from Halcandra of the distant past, the Ancients were a race of great magical prowess and creativity. Their creations outlived them as a culture at least once over, as they were fully intended to. Little is known about them beyond what is remembered by said crafts, as most documents about them were subsequently destroyed and their language lost to time. Unfortunately, this has turned their legacy a bit infamous, as not all of their works remain pure.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Human-like in form, their bodies are actually energy made flesh. Their external appearance is the only part of them that's solid; their core is made of gaseous energy. This enabled them to easily float, as they are already nearly weightless, and to have an instinctive connection to magic sources around them.
Biological Traits
Most Ancients appeared vaguely humanform in stature with varying skin colors. Two cone-like ears on top of their heads were normal. Their kind floated regularly, made mostly of magic inside and out. Their hair colors varied, too, though skilled mages gained a golden hue in it as they became proficient.
Growth Rate & Stages
Growth of one Ancient throughout an average lifespan took approximately 100 to 150 Halcandran years. This is equatable to 100,000 to 150,000 Earth years.
Ecology and Habitats
Halcandra at the time of the Ancients' lives was lush and covered with rich minerals they were able to harvest for their crafts. The planet itself naturally produced a great deal of planetary energy in its own, sometimes known to other species as anima. This anima was crucial to their arts, as well as the proper functioning of their society.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Ancient food consumption as a topic is largely untouched in remaining documents of their era, but it is likely that their dietary needs were similar to modern Halcandrans. What most average biological species would consider "food" may have been processable to them, therefore. Food was likely converted directly to the same raw energy their bodies were made of inside.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Most Ancients had a more well developed sense of hearing than most species due to their large, non-complex ear anatomy. This enabled their language to include a great deal of tonal information.
Their sensory capabilities of magical fields were also astounding due to their mastery of their own auras.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Most names from the Ancients regarding their own kind are lost to time. It is likely they were short on average, and only had one. It is also likely that renaming one's self as various stages in life was seen as normal.
Gender Ideals
The Ancients, by the era they were producing their iconic crafts, were unimorphic in biology. Gender labels remained, but had become a personal journey of self report which the culture widely respected.
Courtship Ideals
Most documents regarding cultural standards were lost, but it is likely that a high amount of touch and non-language vocalizations were key in expressing desired relationships.
Average Technological Level
Galactic NOVAs, star rods and dream fountains, Landia the four headed dragon, and the Lor Starcutter are their most widely known accomplishments.
Common Dress Code
The Ancients, like modern Halcandras, preferred long, flowing clothing decorated with personal symbols of the individual's choosing. Color was less a decorative than it was used as a description of one's gender presentation at the moment.
Common Taboos
As the Ancients generally created light-aligned crafts, darkness based magic was frowned upon.
Historical Figures
Few are documented as most Ancients were well regarded within their own culture of interpersonal respect, but some are remembered by name.
Hyn, an early craftsman on the first NOVAs ever created, was well known for being the first user of the Master Crown to create the souls of NOVAs, and for his extremely long life in doing so. Hyn created four NOVA souls in total as well as a great deal of base programming for future crafts before vanishing from remaining documents.
Common Myths and Legends
The crafts themselves appeared to be mythical even to the Ancients, as it took multiple generations to construct one NOVA. Their dedication to seeing the creation of an object they would likely never see finished required a great deal of cultural awe.

Average Physique
As their species does not have internal muscles and bones, they were frequently squishy looking. Body types visually varied, however.
