Structure
The Clan's patriarch is chosen in a ritualistic combat that occurs once every five years. The current patriarch opts whether or not to defend his current title, before dueling every contender for his position in single combat. Whoever is victorious becomes the patriarch for the next five years. In the event wherein the patriarch does not wish to contest his title or has passed away, a tournament is held between all aspiring leaders, with the final selection being made by the clan's elders.
Public Agenda
Clan Foghladh and their offshoots are primarily raiders and warriors, gathering most of their wealth and food through extorting tribute from smaller weaker clans. Some go on the create mercenary companies in the northern territories, though most remain in the Krel Freeholds, raiding other clans and occasionally poking into Briar Glenn and Vance to raid a village or two, before slipping away through the cliffs with their plunder.
Assets
Clan Fogladh has perhaps the most offshoots of any other clan, a total of 23 clans in the Krel Freeholds and beyond trace their ancestry back to Fogladh, and most consider themselves loyal to the mother clan, though there are notable exceptions.
History
Dubhan O Fogladh was one of the original companions of Darragh Wintersbane, though the two were not particularly good friends. Renowned for his ruthless brutality, Dubhan commanded the vanguard of the Krel armies, as well as most of their raiding parties. During the Siege of Hearth, he remained in the ancestral lands, fighting against scores of Unsidhe thralls to protect the homeland.
The story of Dubhan's death comes from the latter half of the recorded epics, stating that he died fighting a giant wolf. Mortally wounded, Dubhan struck the final blow to the wolf with his hammer, embedding his hammer in its skull. Dubhan is said to have perished shortly after, though his hammer and the skull of the wolf can found in Carn Dubhan, and serves as a site of reverence to the clan's founder.
Demography and Population
All of Clan Foghladh and their offshoots can trace their ancestry back to the legendary Dubhan O Foghladh. Most Foghladh clans still practice slavery, taking captives whenever raiding other clans or external territories.
