Government

Being the seat of power for Clan Broin, Broinsrest is controlled and led by the Clan Matriarch and the circle of elders. In times of trouble or when the Matriarch is otherwise disposed, she will appoint a Speaker to serve as a leader in her stead, until either the business is resolved or her term as Matriarch is over. Typically, the Speaker is a reliable second in command or the Matriarch's husband.

Infrastructure

Broinsrest prides itself in its blast furnaces and steel production, as well as its burgeoning lumber industry. Due to its proximity to the Gray Spine mountain range and several rivers, Broinrest has found middling success in moderate industrialization. It operates several lumber mills and grain mills within its borders and is currently attempting to bankroll textile production are ongoing, as most investors fear the labor shortage intrinsic to the holding only being populated by members of the clan, their spouses, and their few thralls.

History

Founded near the end of Kaitlin O Broin's life, Broinrest has been renowned for being a calmer, more amiable freehold in the Krel lands. For centuries, it primarily subsisted off of mining, farming, and fishing the nearby rivers. In the early days of the Age of Steel, however, Cieran investors from House Dueras took an interest in the settlement's geographical location and resources, and began to work closely with Clan Broin to improve the local infrastructure and industrialize the area. Though there was resistance to start, most citizens now prefer the lumber mills and blast furnaces to the old way of doing things, and the local culture has thrived in spite of mounting pressure from House Dueras to allow Cieran workers to freely immigrate in order to work.
A notable landmark of Broinrest is the great oak tree in its center, which sprawls across several buildings and has been incorporated into the main hall which houses the Matriarch, her family, and the council of elders. It is believed that Kaitlin O Broin rests inside the tree, awaiting the day her descendants need her to emerge and fight alongside them once again.
