The Canopy

Sometimes called the Dome of Heaven, the Canopy is a structure of the Great Tree that protects Pyroeis from the foaming chaos that lies outside it. 
The Canopy turns very slowly at a distance of 7000 miles above the surface of the world. Inside its grip lie the Burning Palace, the Silver Garden, and the Night Arena. Between its leaves, the bright substance of the phlogeston that makes up the outer chaos can be seen. During the day, this light is overpowered by the light of the Burning Palace, but at night it can be seen to twinkle brightly.

Ecosystem

Dominated by Razor Hawks, the most common denizen of the Canopy are the Elder Squirrels, massive rodents the size of cows. They graze on the fruit of the Great Tree, releasing its sap, which they find extremely nourishing.

Ecosystem Cycles

One Cycle of the Great Tree lasts about 10000 years, during that time, different sections of the tree are in different phases of normal growth cycles, from flowering, to fruiting, to fallow. This seasonal change occurs with the change of seasons of the land below, and is caused by the slow orbit of the elemental planes around Pyroeis.
