Magicite Material in Kingdoms of the Captive Sea | World Anvil

Magicite

Magicite is a rare form of copper that has semi-magical properties. It is usually found deep down in veins of normal copper but is easily identified by its red-purple tint.    Magicite is relatively safe to work with, though breathing the dust from the mining process can have permanent effects on a person's body. The most common is the development of a greenish tint to the blood. Once this happens, it is strongly encouraged that continued contact with the raw ore, as this can lead to madness. This is especially a problem with magically capable individuals as once this stage is reached, their magical abilities are heightened.   Magicite's magical capacities mean that it is easier to enchant, requiring 10% fewer energy points than normal. this is one of the reasons it is especially used in making runestones. Inlays of magicite are also common in weapons and armor and are treated as fine weapons in addition to being magically active.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Magicite is slightly more ductile than standard copper. Because of this objects made pure magicite are softer and more easily damaged than normal. Not recommended for weapons and armor.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Magicite holds mana more readily than most other materials, only Blood Crystal holds a charge better. Worked into a object, it makes the item easier to enchant and is almost necessary for weapons and armor.

Compounds

Mixed with tin, magicite forms an alloy called Shadow Gold, which maintains magicite's magical reactivity but is stronger and less malleable.   Mixed with Zinc, magicite creates an allow called Lunicite, which acts as a mana sink.

Geology & Geography

Found in rocky outcroppings, same as copper, usually in deserts and mountainous regions. Usually found deep in veins of regular copper.
