Danweir

Often referred to as dwarves, the Danweir are one of the oldest people of Pyroesis.   The Danweir are not true biological creatures, instead being elemental in nature. Danweir are not born so much as budded off their soul gem, in a process known as 'geming.' In this process a danweir of venerable age will grow new soul gems from theirs. Each of these between 2 and 6 gems can be use to produce a young danweir.   Most Danweir speak a language called Druen.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Physically speaking, Danweir are like thinking stone golems. Their internal structure is a mix of stone 'tissues,' and a 'nervous system' that is a single mass of wires and tubes made of an alloy of iron, silver, and platinum. At the core of this mass of wires sits their 'Soul Gem.' This gem is a combination heart and brain, and contains the soul of the Danweir.   Though traditionally the Soul Gem sit in the center of their chest, this is not a necessity. Where it is placed exactly is up to the sculptor. it is generally recommended that they avoid putting it in an extremity, as this can be dangerous for the resulting individual.

Genetics and Reproduction

At the end of their life cycle, a Danweir will begin to experience disorientation, in a process that mimics dementia or alzheimer's. This occurs when their soul gem begins the budding process, as the new soul gems begin to absorb the memories of the elder. The elder danweir will begin to have problems with where they are and what they are doing, and may lose access to important skills.   At some point, the new buds' growth will begin mangling their nervous system as well. Rupturing the cradle in which the soul gem sits. Once this happens, the danweir will begin to have problems moving as well.   As the cradle burst, the elder danweir will become immobile, and the mass of soul gems will need to be removed. Usually their will be between 3 to 5 soul gems. This includes the original, though it has been stripped of a good chunk of its memories and personality, and is effectively a new gem because of it. These soul gems can be now placed in new bodies to create a new danweir.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Danweir are primarily lithovores, eating mostly rocks, metals and crystals. They also consume an impressive amount of alcohol. This is refined in the body to create an acid capable of breaking down the metals and stone, so that it can be used by the body to repair itself. this slurry of materials is moved through the tubes that make up their central system.
