National Library of Silveron

Purpose / Function

Common knowledge is a right to all. No matter where they come from, a person should be allowed to learn and educate themselves for the betterment of society. It's this belief from which the national library derives it's purpose, to lend free knowledge to anyone whom seeks to know more about a subject. It is also a place to store said knowledge, and to research ancient and strange texts and scriptures to then become public or in rare cases private knowledge kept inside the city.

Design

Squared with a curved, circular roof filled with men kneeling infront of an elven queen and human king. Dry wood walls and a clean gray to silver hued brick floor.

Sensory & Appearance

Within the library an almost deafening silence would take it's throne. It's chilly, dry air may not be the most pleasant either and except for an oddly pleasant smell of old paper, parchment and leather the general aura around the place remains neutral, though can take calmer or more stressfull tones depending on the date and hour.

Contents & Furnishings

Except for a grand oaken reception and large crystaline chandliers in the roofs, which light the building from the non-volatile spark of light infused crystals, the library is little else than bookcase after bookcase filled with books and scrolls. The odd leather couch may be found here and there around the corners of the building, although most homely furniture can be found in the locked off top floor of the tower.   This room, otherwise known as the study, is where all the scholars working for Silveron work on deciphering and translating scrips for new books, and also the place where they store all the knowledge which isn't allowed directly into anyones paws.

Architecture

The library is built in traditional Silveron fashion, that being a clean front garden with silver framed oak doors on a protuding entry hall. It's many brick steps lead to a stone pillared sloping roof which trails a meters sidewalk around dim egg-shaped windows and stone walls which connects to it's platform.   The L shaped building runs two stories high, with the second floor being made in a mixture of firm wood and stone that meets a triangular oak roof with beam protudes out over the entrance to form a shape of a flying owl.   On the end of the L's bend an upwards twisting tower of stone and wood can be seen rising a short distance above the rest of the building. It's roof is formed like a cone.

Defenses

The library demands two knights to guard the outside of the entry and the inside of the entry at all times to ensure no potential thief could get away with any books. Two cryomancers taught in the arts of creating foam or mists should also be stationed within the library at all times, that in case of a fire they can swiftly deal with it in as harmless a way possible for the books and scrolls.   However as a part of the same branch which is the Reliquary of Silveron and a hotspot for scholars, the library is almost always host to some highly skilled combatants and magi that doesn't include it's assigned guard.   There is also a strict rule that the library is kept cool, dry and devoid of any source of fire to ensure no burning accidents can happen.

Tourism

While most big cities have some form of national library for the sake of studies and culture, this one in Silveron is far from the largest but still reknowned to hold a lot of books and works of literacy which can be expensive, hard to come by or outright outlawed within their own homeland. Many scholars travel far and wide to learn of political works which their kings and queens might have put to the torch, or histories which have been stomped out by the victors.   A fair share of forbidden magics and rituals are also stored within the library, but often tend to require a license and background check of whomever wishes to read the books, accompanied by a full statement of why they wish to recieve that knowledge. The more powerfull tomes though, be they of legal or illegal designation are all kept at a more secure location.
