Acirudia

Geography

The land of Acirudia exists as skybound islands floating above a gaping abyss. It's not exactly clear what caused a land to break apart and defy all natural laws. Then again, hell doesn't make much sense to begin with. It is believed that the many pipes and mechanical workings that stick out of the islands may have something to do with the destructions, considering many of the parts are broken apart, floating around in the skies and in some rare cases still connect islands with one another.

Ecosystem

The islands feed directly from an arcane energy called the Eld, which nurtures the eldritch sporegrowth on the islands. It is these shrooms and fungi which the avian creatures of the land eat, to gain terrible arcane powers which they rain down on the creatures bellow. The souls of the victims are thereafter seeped into the ground of the islands, to which cause can only be speculated.

Ecosystem Cycles

Within Acirudia there exists two seasons. The dreaded Eldwake period which is when the eld magic is at largest and most creatures are rampaging the islands on a quest to be the biggest, deadliest predator out there, while humanoid and daemoniac creatures both have to hide against the vast murders.   The second is the so called respite period, when the creatures are docile and even friendly. It's also called the hunting periods, where it's inhabitants need to cull as many of the creatures as possible before the Eldwake period, to prepare for the horrors which it brings.

Localized Phenomena

A phenoma which has been recenetly discovered by Goldwick Thaumaturges is the so called Eld Vortex. It's believed that this phenomen has something to do with the creation or some form of extraction of the Eld energy, although more research is necessary.

History

Although Acirudia is part of the planes of hell, it is well discovered and a good one third of the realm has been claimed by mortal hands during the last Hellcrusade around two hundered years ago. Much thanks to the demon inhabitants lazy nature where they happily sat on their high spires, as the combined forces of Arcathia claimed island after island, due to the recent breakthrough in aircraft technology.   While the reason for the catastrophy for this world remains a debated subject, the A'cird being the sturdy race which inhabited the world before it went to hell still exist and in force as the dominant sentient group on the plane. From their words, it's said the world they inhabited was highly technological, beyond what the invaders from Arcathia could comprehend in their current era. They stated that machinery existing underneath the crust and soil completely automated everything in the world, from food production to electricity, ensuring barely anyone had to work. That neglec in the end, was what ensured nobody could repair the malfunctions is known to have been part of what spelled the end of the A'cird civilization, though what caused remnants of it to exist in airborne pockets, and what caused the Eld to come forth, is yet questions they wish answered.   While the A'cird were more than happy to ally and aid both the human and elven crusades against demonkin, they would not accept their technology to fall into their hands. Only rarely does it happen that they search out higher ups in different organizations or reputable adventurers to quest for their tech. Nor would they ever go beyond the portals to create a new life within Arcathia as they are affraid their thousands of years older culture would meddle with their progress and risk discord beyond even their wiser measures.

Tourism

It ain't exactly tourism, though many magitechincal scientists tend to write up a visit to the colonized isles of Acirudia on their bucketlist. Others also seek to visit the place to meet with the A'cird, though it rarely happens that they ever see one, due to their stance that their people right now only cooporate as a lesser evil that threaten both their worlds.   While most higher standing within human and elven society agree with the A'cird that alien technology shouldn't be tampered with, they do have vast issues with goblins somehow managing to smuggle themselves into the realm as 'tourists'. Though unlike the normal obscenly rich person paying to just visit an alien world, the goblins accompanied by dwarven mercenaries have managed to claim their own little land of Acirudia and are rapidly discovering the tech for personal profits.
