Kingdom of Ukraine
The Kingdom of Ukraine is a large nation in eastern Europe bordering Russia, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Romania-Hungary.
Culture
Despite being under Russian authority for centuries, Ukraine retains a Slavic culture that is unique to the region. They retain their own language and customs that while is similar to Russian, is distinct in its own pattern. This was perpetuated greatly by King Vasyl, who was in love with the Ukrainian culture from his time in the Austrian military.
History
Following the The Great War, Emperor Leopold II of Austria-Hungary proclaimed the creation of the Hapsburg Confederation, in which many of the empire's ethnic minorities gained autonomy in their regions. One of these was the territory of East Galicia, making up a large amount of ethnic Ukrainians.
When the Confederation dissolved, East Galicia was offered by the Great Powers of Europe to Russia. However, this led to mass protests, as Russia had previously lost then recovered the lands of the Tsardom of Ukraine. Instead, Galicia was announced to be a separate nation, with Archduke Wilhelm, son of the newly crowned King Charles of Poland, elected controversially as king. Wilhelm, who had been known as the Red Prince for his actions for the Ukrainian people during the Great War, took the name of Vasyl Vyshyvanyi.
When Germany and Russia went to war, Vasyl jumped on the opportunity to ally with Germany. Vasyl demanded a united Ukraine as compensation for his support. Though Ukraine suffered greatly in the conflict, losing a large portion of their population, Vasyl accomplished his goal and was hailed as a hero. The Kingdom of Galicia was renamed to the Kingdom of Ukraine, with the capital being re-established in Kiev.
