King Jean I

Jean-Pierre Boyer was the President of Haiti following the death of Alexandre Petion 1818. In 1819, he was proclaimed King Jean I on the example of America. Under his reign, he supported Colombian independence from Spain, supported emancipation efforts in the Americas, and reformed Haiti's economy and diversified it. Having no sons of his own, he married his daughter, Marie-Joseph Laraque, to the son of his rival, Henri Christophe. Henri succeeded him as king after his death.
