Elias I

King Elias

Elias Robert Charles Maria was King of Argentina, and the third son of King Robert I. He succeeded his father as king due to the mental disabilities of his older siblings. The Argentine Congress had little faith in their capabilities to rule, and thus named Elias as monarch. In order to secure his reign, Elias made considerable concessions following the Argentine Revolution in order to garner enough support to take the throne.   Elias faced much opposition at the beginning of his reign. During the many wars at the start of his father's reign, including the Paraguayan War that ended in a bloody victory and the War of the Pacific that ended in an embarassing defeat, the monarchy of Argentina was in decline in popularity. Due to the domestic political unrest, he made two significant descisions of his reign. The first was declining to support Luis of Orleans-Braganza and his claim as Emperor of Brazil, and instead authorizing his sister, Maria, to marry Emperor Augusto I. The second was to ensure that his war-weary citizens stayed out of the Great War, deciding to remain neutral during the Congress of Columbia.
