Crown of Castile

The Crown of Castile is a territorial division of Spain. The territory is made up of the regions and provinces of the historic region of the same name. The territory is under the regin of the King of Spain.

History

Following the Nueva Planta decrees in 1707-1716, the Crowns of Castile and Aragon were abolished and unified into a single union of Spain by Phillip V. However, following the Coup of 1848 against the absolutist reign of Carlos V, the region was once again established. This was done after the demands of the liberal generals of Spain, as well as the territories of the Basque and Catalan regions demanded the autonomy they were promised after supporting the Carlist uprisings. As a result, the historical Crown of Castile, Crown of Aragon, and Kingdom of Navarre were reestablished.
