The King's Dukes

Note: Specific spoilers will be protected within this article, but the whole thing is more than a bit spoiler-y in general, so just be warned! :)
The sitting Troll King in Norskar turned heads across the continent when he named two men of common blood to dukedoms, placing them at the head of Norsk nobility. Few protested the action, however, and welcome to the new royal favorites has been warm and unfeigned.
As is now known, two guardsmen in training, sons of a regular, survived the initial massacre. They suffered injury while covering the flight of the sole royal survivor.

This prince was of course Cairbre, now the returned Troll King, and the two guardsmen in training were Morgan and Malcolm. Their identical scars are remnants of this horrific night and Dugald's cruelty.

The two young guards in training stayed with the prince during his long exile, protecting him as the three of them found itinerant work in Mardia and beyond. Though they were all but youths when they first escaped the slaughter and fled both Skopje and Norskar, they grew up quickly under the need and grew close within their secret. Protocol could not be kept while living incognito in other lands, but the two guards found ways to show respect to their royal heir.
Though the new dukes do not carry noble blood and have no hereditary distinction, it is generally acknowledged that there would be no legitimate king without their selfless courage on the night of the coup and massacre and their years of loyal sacrifice. Thus the two new duchies of Gni and Gnatok were created and bestowed upon the king's trusted friends. These men have the king's ear and the right of approach at any time, for all know that Norskar owes them her rescue.
