Senator

There are thirteen seats on the Senate, including the High Commander or Empress. All members of the Senate are called senators, but they can also be referred to by their specific titles. In addition to the seven named seats, there are six seats for each representative of the six provinces. These chairs do not have specific titles, only being referred to as "Senator" (or occasionally, using Chema as an example, "Cheman Senator" or "Cheman Representative").

Qualifications

The requirements for a seat on the Senate tend to vary by province.

Avadale

A nominee must be at least twenty years old and must have completed an Annual Hunt and received a reward for their achievement in said hunt. Avadale's senator is elected via a true democratic vote, and serves until they pass away, retire, or are deemed unfit to continue in the position by the Elders.

Chema Expanse

A nominee must be at least thirty years old, must be a guild member, and must have been born in Chema. There is also an unspoken requirement that the nominee must be Feuyan. Rich candidates are also often more successful. The Cheman senator is chosen by the governmental institutions in the cities of Coastone, Larimich, Stizanska, and Skoveca. These institutions may choose to remove the senator at any point and instate a new one. If this does not occur, the senator may be in that position until they pass away or retire.

Ephemere

A nominee must be at least twenty years old, must be have served a minimum of two years with the Central Lakes Trading Company Sentinels, and must be a guild member. In the past, senators have been Feuyan, but that has begun to change. The senator is elected via a vote. Every settlement in the province sends one to three voting representatives, depending on the population size, who then vote for their preferred senator. There are always an odd number of representatives.

Katzan Cape

A nominee must have completed the Rite of Youth and decided on their Path. This is the only hard requirement. Often, nominees with magical capabilities are the more favored. The senator is elected democratically at the Festival of Wreaths every three years, with backups chosen should something happen to the winner while they're in the seat.

Lumarien Plains

A nominee must have completed their Pilgrimage before they may even be considered for the position. There is no age restriction other than this. It is preferable that the nominee have served as an Elder in their clan, though not required. Each clan collectively votes for a nominee every time they are in Nimre. A new senator is chosen every couple of years, and nominated by their clan.

Strica Seaboard

A nominee must be at least thirty years old and must be a guild member. A senator is chosen by the governments of the four largest cities in the province, Keford, Giffinton, Stirgeborough, and Seaford. Any residents of the smaller villages must travel to one of these cities to speak on behalf of a nominee. Unfortunately, this often results in the Strica representative being biased against the needs of the majority of Strican residents.
