Goblin Pox
Only a goblin could make a disease where the cure is getting drunk and rolling in the mud... - Every dwarf, Everywhere.
Transmission & Vectors
Bodily Fluid
Causes
One of the many tribes of goblins (The Golobulus) that rampage in the Horde Lands have recently discovered a blood based pathogen that can be spread by covering their weapons with their own blood like a toxin.
Symptoms
Green pustules appear upon the skin, rupture and disfigure the infected. Excessive drool, leading to dehydration and weakness. Sensitivity to light.
Treatment
Mud Baths draw out toxins that build up in the skin, relieving the skin irritation and damage. Alcohol cuts the viscosity of drool and helps the infected sleep and recover.
Prognosis
Left untreated the infected can suffer greatly from the pustules, however most common folk end up drunk in a pigsty for a few days as the mud draws out the toxin. In more affluent communities, mud spas have become all the rage as the wealthy hide their infections behind the façade of opulence.
Sequela
Research from the Kingdom of Chronos has indicated a potential issue with *REDACTED*
Hosts & Carriers
The Golobulus tribe of goblinoids is known to be the source of the disease. The infected are contagious as long as pustules are present.
Prevention
Wound prevention and cleaning greatly reduce the chance of infection. Magical Healing appears to negate the chance for infection. Orcs and Orc-blooded races seem to be immune to the pathogen. Goblinoids however seem to highly susceptible to the disease.
Epidemiology
Most infections within the Protectorate originate person to person from ruptured pustules. Infections outside of the Protectorate are usually direct infections caused by the Golobulus tribe of goblins purposely as a means to weaken their targets.
History
The first case appeared in the Expanse around 375 AF. Small outbreaks follow the spring raids of the Golobulus and slowly move deeper and deeper into the Protectorate each year.
Cultural Reception
While the disease is mostly considered an inconvenience and another reason to hate goblins, goblinoid citizens of the Protectorate have suffered the brunt of the ostracization of the common folk.
The Kingdom of Wellspring is responsible for developing the unconventional treatment of the disease. Wellspring has long tried to uplift the goblin society and in combination with the efforts of its many agents is actively working to permanently find a counter to the outbreaks.
