The Founders Sect vs the Ascendant Group Party

In the early days of the Kiannon II colony, the AGP (Ascendant Group Party) was a small group of merchants and explorers who saw the vast resources of Kiannon II and thought of ways to exploit them.  Their goals were to prosper by shaping the planet to meet their needs.  This was in opposition to the Founders Sect who did not want greed or desire to the expand without reason to destroy this new planet like humans had destroyed the Earth.  Unfortunately, the Founders Sect did not want to understand or compromise with the AGP.  Their fight polarized the colonists and nearly became a religious war.  
In the early years of the colony, the relationship between the two powerful groups was very different.  The Founders Sect was stronger than the AGP.  They basically pushed the AGP reps out of the Council.  When the AGP asked for resources to explore beyond the Mountains that encircled Cathay, their request was denied.  They were denied by the Council, ostensibly because there was concern about disease.  The truth was, some members of the Council were more concerned that the loudest voices calling for an expedition would run amuck without anyone from the Founders Sect to remind them that they were here to be stewards of the planet's resources.  
After months of wrangling, the Council reluctantly agreed to send a survey, but the AGP did not want to wait for their 'bureaucratic process to complete' before setting off.  One of the 'loud voices' of the AGP decided to send out an exploration team with their own resources to establish a settlement.  The settlement was called Eldritch after they encountered the oil pits, the wildlife and finally contracted the disease that was later labeled the Esle Plague.  The plague devastated the colonists that founded Eldritch.  Three months into the effort, most of the Eldritch settlers caught the Plague.  A few desperate settlers came back to Cathay and brought the plague back with them.  
The Council locked down the city and brought the sick up to the Mothership to develop a treatment and to recover.  This was a very bad time in Kiannon's history.  The Founders Sect has never let the AGP forget that they nearly destroyed the colony with their arrogance.  
One hundred years later, the AGP has grown in power as they found oil and other minerals that could be crafted or used to power industry.  They have grown considerably in wealth and they share that wealth / influence with their members.  Many are pushing to continue to extend the colony's borders and the AGP's influence across the continent of Coracle.  The Founders Sect has had to begin to trade with the AGP vendors as the produce and the resources that come out of Eldritch, Wonderton and Vieta are drawing more colonists to move to settlements beyond Cathay.  
Denizens of Cathay are also beginning to travel to the newer settlements of Vieta and Wonderton.  To the general dismay of the Founders Sect, among the people there is a feeling of excitement because they sense that Kiannon II may one day be the sanctuary they were searching for when the Mothership left Earth.
