Old Fashioned Tendencies

Unfortunately, of the many bad traditions that were brought to Kiannon from Earth, some of the wealthier families continued to place expectations to support the family's fortunes on their children. What that meant in reality is that family heads - whether male or female -felt that they could compel their children to marry to improve the connections or wealth of the entire family. This was considered old-fashioned by most of the colonists, but the expectation is very strong on the wealthier colonists.   Another old-fashioned tradition was the continuance of some old Earth traditions and holidays. One of the holidays was winter light festival and the Fall tradition of visiting the graves of relatives that have passed on. The winter light festival no longer takes place in with snow. Colonists hang lights, eat sweets and give gifts to each other over one weekend at the end of the year. The seasons don't map to the old Earth calendar. The light festival takes place in the summertime. The colonists have incorporated the fireflies on Coracle into the light festival.   Also old-fashioned from the perspective of the AGP, is the dependent on the Hub as an information resource or historical record. The AGP would prefer that people forget the reason for their migration from Earth and stay focused on the near term and what they have been able to accomplish here on Kiannon. Accessing the Hub (the spacestation that was built to house the knowledge of humanity) is something that is typically only encouraged by the Founder's Sect, the Military and the Council.   The AGP has limited access to the Hub from the Hub Satellite libraries in their settlements with the exception of entertainment that focuses on the early 20th century and before. As a result, the architecture and fashion of the wealthier colonists in Vieta is strongly influenced by Victorian architecture and clothing.
