Personal history
As one of the oldest living mortals with consistent societal contact, it can be difficult to tell which of the surviving secondhand accounts of Xanthe's early life is accurate without consulting the woman herself and introducing her bias. Some things are common across all accounts, however, such as that Xanthe was born an utterly normal, if remarkably cheerful girl to parents of no particular note. This lends considerable credence to the popular legends, and Xanthe's own account, about the source of her power as entirely external. Perhaps equally interesting are the sorts of things that none of them agree on: Xanthe's benefactor. The root of each different version of her legend is what power eventually gives Xanthe her ability to read destiny, and how that being's influence permeates the rest of the story. Xanthe herself is no help in this matter, having only ever made statements general enough to apply to all her legends, and does not give a direct answer on from where her power flows. After those days lost to history, but long before the present day, Xanthe made her famous decision to give up her mobility to petrification as well as portions of her body to petitioners in order to give better and more prolonged guidance. She chose her favorite garden in the city as her eternal home, and it is today the last unchanged part of Oros from that time period, with the Temple of the Oracle built around it and, though changing over time itself, preserving that garden perfectly. She still receives all of her petitioners in that garden, gifting the most in need the crystalline fragments of her own nervous system to remain in contact providing guidance on ever changing destinies in exchange for vicariously seeing the world through them.
