Personal history
Chione did not always get the respect her arcane talent deserves. Her father sought to secure her a high position (his own) in the meritocratic structure of Libria by teaching her and only her his best methods and greatest magical secrets. He was successful, and when he passed, only fourteen year old Chione could reasonably take over the position of Research Director. Such practices are looked down upon greatly in Libria, tainting the reputation of the teacher for hoarding knowledge and possibly decreasing the overall capabilities of the Magocracy, and impugning the talent of the beneficiary who may not have been able to earn their position if competition were allowed. Chione quickly dispelled such concerns, proving herself an incredible prodigy and one of the most successful Research Directors in the history of Libria. Until, of course, the rise of the Unifier. Chione was well equipped to keep her position or even rise further, but her mother was a casualty of Archelaos' takeover, so she instead fled the city.
Education
Chione's education was seen to by her parents. For most not of noble birth, this would result in exactly one trade skill and no ability to vouch for the results in a new land, but as the daughter of a longtime Librian Research Director and an influential Rimpan Shugenja, few would doubt her intelligence or learning.
