The Blight

A few years ago a disease of epic proportions passed through the Eastern regions of the Five Kingdoms, with the Kingdoms of Esperia and Molba the most significantly hit, but with some cases reported in all Five Kingdoms.
At first some of the local fauna and flora of Molba fell ill, then it came to the people. The Blight as it would come to be known was highly infectious, able to infect any living entity, no one was immune and its touch was death. The strangeness of it was it was immune to the magical or divine treatments, in fact it seemed to increase the rate of infection and the wasting away of the body.
Countless settlements were ravaged by the disease. Many tried to come up with a cure for the disease but quickly, while working with the infected, became ill themselves. A victim's healthy pallor becoming deathly pale, their skin stretching over the bones as their fat and muscles seemed to disappear within days, and their veins turning black as shadow, with dark patches appearing as the blood vessels burst spreading the darkness across under the skin.
A cure was developed by Geppo Goldenleaf and Amitiel Moontree. They had worked out that combining a local herb, found near the village of Mossgarden that had proved resistant to the disease, with magic to accelerate the disease would cause the Blight to burn itself out trying to attack the plant extracts. The accelerant was it turns out devised from a poison used by assassins of the Dark Lord.
It took time for the cure to be passed around through the Five Kingdoms, and even longer to manufacture enough antidotes and pass them to the farthest flung regions to fully wipe out the plague. But in time it was eradicated and the world could begin the process of mourning and healing. 
In the time since plague, it has come to light that the Blight was artificially made by servants of the Dark Lord. The largest concern of this being that they could easily release it again in the future, and next time it may be made immune to all cures.
