Dasobektir Character in Khinarzi | World Anvil

Dasobektir

The Eternal Hunger, Mother of Sea Monsters, Mother of the Deep, The Imprisoned One

Many of Khinarzi would state evil came to the plane with the coming of the Dark One. This is not entirely true, for there was one entity who came before and brought evil to the plane, though her efforts were limited to the darkest parts of the plane's oceans, where even now the conflicts still rage.   It is unclear if she is a deity or some other kind of being but Dasobektir, to the myths that carry her tale to the present, calls her a goddess. The myths do seem to imply however she was not born here or even was amongst the Dawn Pantheon when they first came to Khinarzi, she was born elsewhere and either followed the string from the Astral Sea or maybe the Plane of Water, but she came to Khinarzi later than the rest. With a great deal of anger, betrayal and suspicion in her heart which lead to her war with the Dawn Pantheon.   Little is known as to why she is so angry, some say she was born with a hunger for the flesh of gods, a curse layed on her due to the actions of her parents during the Dawn War, and when she attacked them her parents banished her, casting her into a deep dark sea that would be her prison. Others say she did not approve of the deity her parents tried to force her to marry and it was this rebellion that caused her to be cast out. There are many other versions but all are clear with two things: she was cast into a deep dark sea for whatever reason and her fingers were cut off so she could never climb out of the abyss she was cast into.   But by whatever means that abyss led her to Khinarzi, where she dove deep to the darkest part of the ocean below even where the ocean meets the undersea. It was here she made or met the Aboleth it is unclear and with their help she made many of the sea monsters that bring great fear to sailors today. With these she launched attacks upon the plane and its gods as she sought to bury all the plane under water into an empire for her and her children.   The goddess like most gods desire mortal followers and as such from the fish made a race which would eventually become both the Locathah and the Kuo Toa. The Dawn Pantheon reacted to the attack first with words and kindness hoping to see if conflict could be avoided, but with their efforts met with silence and their own people suffering, they turned to violence to answer the call, many of the sea folk were made in these days and fought the monsters of Dasobektir. Some of her people even joined the Dawn Pantheon, becoming the locathah, which is the source of their eternal enmity with the aboleth, kuo toa and other children of Dasobektir. Eventually Dasobekir was imprisoned in the deep earth, it is unclear how but it is known dread lm'grafedone had a part to play in the imprisonment.   Now her children led by the aboleth still wage their wars in the deep, with the sea folk constantly keeping their oaths of eternal vigil to the threats of the deep dark. Though now many of these foes have pledged allegiance to the Dark Lord, some still whisper the name of their goddess. And it is feared by many that in her dark prison she has birthed even more horrible children that if released could spell the end of the Five Kingdoms forever. It is said that Dasobektir was cunning though and before her imprisonment she gave shards of herself to her followers that her plans may be continued, it is believed all of these were destroyed.   In the present Dasobektir is worshipped not as a member of the Dawn or Twilight pantheon but as a dread goddess who should be prayed to and honoured lest her children drag those same sailors who ignore her to the depths to feed her eternal hunger.
