Ilza & Mino's Gossip: Osna's Statute

A dark-skinned barmaid passed the table, and Ilza fell silent until she’d walked away. There were too many rumours about that girl and neither of the two ladies trusted her.
ILZA: “Now did I tell you about what I have seen?”   MINO: “Is it relating to weddings?”   ILZA: “Tangentially.”   MINO: “Alright, I will let you bore me about Kavale.”   ILZA: “Hush. So, I was walking past the Shva, you know the bit which leads off down to the Lamej school and the Hodenay quarter. There’s that statue, isn’t there? The one of Chancellor Naekh and his smug self.”   MINO: “What do you have against Naekh?”   ILZA: “A lot of things, mainly he couldn’t raise non-arrogant children. But I haven’t finished my story. There was some Lamej kids, the ones who don’t deserve it, chipping away at his feet.”   MINO: “How ghastly.”   ILZA: “Suppose its divine retribution on Mota’s part. He cracked down her statues, and now kids are selling bits of his for extra Na’a because there’s always a need for metal that’s better than commemorating old dead men.” MINO: “Why did he hate her so much, I wonder”   ILZA: “Because he had something against the concept of happiness! He wouldn’t allow dancing even at his own daughter’s wedding!”   MINO: “And we’re back onto weddings…”
