Monarch of Mournstead
The Monarch of Mournstead holds an entire nations safety and happiness within their hands, a crushing responsibility for those who are not trained for it. Many who were unprepared for the role have died at the hands of revolutions, of other more prepared members of their families, and sometimes their own.
Requirements
In order to be eligible for the rank of Monarch, one must meet four conditions.
Be a relative of the Laina bloodline
Be at least 20 years of age
Have passed the trial of truth

Appointment
The Monarch of Mournstead is raised to the rank via a coronation, where they are blessed by the deity known as Ildis. The coronation typically includes feasting with the people of Mournstead, as well as dancing and singing and free gifts to the people.
Duties
Taking care of the residents of Mournstead and ensuring no harm befalls them, improving the community via building and events, regularly visiting stores in order to ensure their products are of the highest quality.
Responsibilities
The tasks of the monarchs of mournstead are not simple ones. They must ensure the security of all cities and towns in Mournstead, and by extension the security of all those who reside there. Alongside this, one must calculate fair taxes for all, and oversee the imports and exports of products to ensure that all is fair. This is not an easy task, due to the high population, however no one has achieved these tasks as flawlessly as her majesty Queen Veronica Laina.
Another of the main tasks, is overseeing community improvements such as buildings and parks, removal or planting of trees, and planning of events and holidays.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
The only way a Monarch can be deposed is via death. Be this natural, at the hands of another, or due to a revolt from the people.
History
Originally, the title was Monarch of Kalvarani, however, when Veronica rose to queendom, she integrated the kingdoms of Kalvarani and Elsewood into one, creating Mournstead and its new title Monarch of Mournstead.
Notable Holders
Veronica Laina, the technical first holder of the title of Queen of Mournstead. Though Veronica is technically the first monarch of Mournstead, she was not the first monarch of Kalvarani, though she was the last.
