Kindness

"When you walk in Kindness, the world walks with you. Without kindness, you are alone in your journey through life."
— Old Oma Quote
Every day, the King of Coronach sat beneath the artwork his Oma commissioned when he was born, but never did he read the words or take them to heart when spoken by his Oma. His kingdom grew through war and strife, always coming home from a conquered land to a cowed people. All his advisors told him how powerful and rich he was becoming. They spoke of how much land he now owned, how many people he now controlled, how his treasury was growing fuller by the day. He never stopped to wonder why his wife and children turned away from him. He never cared about why his friends from his youth stopped coming around. He never understood why his crown weighed him down.
Until the day...
When a knight from the land of Dobasi entered the Court of Coronach and challenged the King in one to one combat. The King laughed in his face and told him to fight his champion instead. For 40 days, the Knight fought one champion after another until the King was sending the stable boys to fight the Knight. The Knight had enough and refused to fight again until the King fought him for the crown. Otherwise everyone, in every land would know that the King was a coward, and they would all rise up together to overthrow him.   The King of Coronach fought the knight and was defeated. As he was lying in front of his throne with the tip of the Knight's sword at his throat, the Knight told him a story about how an old lady came to him in his dreams and asked him to help her grandson. That he had lost his way and forgotten all that she had taught him. She told him to defeat her grandson in honorable combat, and then show Kindness by staying his hand. That her grandson would make a great consort to the throne, but should never be the power of the throne.   The Knight held out his hand for the defeated King to take, and helped him to his feet. With the Kings defeat, the throne was the Knight and so was the King. From that day forth, the Knight-King and the King-Consort ruled the Kingdom with Kindness rather than war and strife. The Kingdom was henceforth known as the Kingdom of Benigno.
