The Boy Who Was Broken

Asaki's realm wanders through Haidar's, and he was following his rivers one day, when Asaki noticed a silver hart drinking at his banks. Being young he was intrigued by the hart and began to approach it. The deer, intrigued by the god, greeted him and stepped into the river. Asaki swept the hart away with him, excited to have a new playmate.   Unknown to Asaki, Haidar had been seeking the hart - he had been attempting to create the Orien, and this particular specimen had escaped. Haidar tracked the hart to the riverbank, and guessed what must have happened.   Now, in the rivers Asaki is more powerful than Haidar, but Haidar knew that Asaki would have to come to the land to get food for his new friend, and so Haidar laid a trap for Asaki.   The next day, Asaki stepped out of the river to gather leaves and nuts for the hart when he was grabbed by 2 men, devotees of Haidar, who brought Asaki to Haidar's temple. Haidar had not told them who they grabbed, they simply knew that the boy was one Haidar wanted. They knew he had thwarted Haidar in some way, and so they beat Asaki.   Asaki was still so young, and weak outside of his rivers, and he could not defend himself. So Asaki took the beating until Sar'Aya heard her son's cries, and found him bleeding on the temple steps.   Sar'Aya's fury was great, but it was too late. Asaki would bear the scars of his beating for the rest of his days, and it took him many moons to heal the broken bones.

Variations & Mutation

Some people believe that Haidar specifically ordered Asaki's beating.   The silver hart is the subject of much speculation, and tales of its fate vary from bard to bard.
