Festival of Floating Flames

It's truly something to behold, the hundreds of pyres floating down the river during the night, like a river of flame as they build up from all of the cities.

History

It is unclear when the first pyres were built and sent down the river, but the tradition quickly took off - now every major city participates, those not on rivers tend to travel or send their prayers with merchants.

Execution

Someone who wishes to honor a loved one and pray for their soul will craft a pyre - a small wooden pile of sticks upon a wax soaked boat. They add small tokens to the pyre - mementos, notes, bits of ribbon.

Participants

All races participate in this to some extent or another, but it is primarily dwarves, halflings, and humans who follow the ritual.

Observance

At sundown on the longest day of the year, the pyres are lit and placed on the river with a prayer to Asaki to bring them home safely.
