Sutra keeper

Sutra Keeper

The Sutra Keeper dedicates their life to the study and mastery of sacred sutras, divine texts containing immense spiritual power. These keepers act as guardians of sacred knowledge, using their mastery of chants, scrolls, and rituals to shape reality itself. Whether they are invoking protective wards, summoning spiritual constructs, or channeling the energy of ancient prayers, the Sutra Keeper weaves their wisdom into powerful effects that alter the flow of battle and protect those who follow the path of enlightenment.

Subclass Spells

At 3rd, 5th, 9th, 13th, and 17th levels, you gain access to the following spells, which are always prepared and do not count against your number of spells prepared.   Level Spells
  • 3rd Shield, Mantra Chant
  • 5th Zone of Truth, Mirror of Kannon
  • 9th Counterspell, Dharma Wheel
  • 13th Guardian of Faith, Amida’s Pure Land Blessing
  • 17th Greater Restoration, Mandala of Protection
  •

    Keeper of Sutras

At 3rd level, you gain proficiency with calligrapher's supplies and one language of your choice. Additionally, you can use sutras and scrolls as weapons of spiritual power. You gain the following benefits:
  • When you cast a spell that requires verbal components, you can choose to chant a sacred sutra, extending the range of the spell by 10 feet.
  • You can inscribe a protective sutra on a scroll over a long rest. When you or an ally holding the scroll would be hit by an attack, they can use their reaction to negate the attack completely. Once the scroll is used, it is destroyed.
  •

    Ritual Mastery

At 6th level, your connection to sacred rituals deepens. You can perform any spell with the ritual tag as a ritual in half the time it normally takes. Additionally, you gain the ability to cast one ritual spell you know without expending a spell slot or Karma Points once per long rest.

    Sutra Ward

At 10th level, you can use your action to create a magical ward using a sutra. This ward can be inscribed on a surface or held aloft. The ward creates a 20-foot-radius sphere that grants the following benefits for 1 minute:
  • Allies within the ward have advantage on saving throws against spells and magical effects.
  • Hostile creatures that enter the ward’s area must make a Wisdom saving throw or be unable to willingly move closer to the ward.
  •   You can use this feature once per long rest.

    Sutra Construct

At 14th level, you learn to create powerful constructs of spiritual energy. As an action, you can spend 5 Karma Points to create a Sutra Construct (choose either a guardian or healer construct) that lasts for 10 minutes or until it is reduced to 0 hit points. The construct occupies its own space, acts on your initiative, and follows your verbal commands (no action required).
  • Guardian Construct: It has an AC of 18 and 50 hit points. It can make two melee attacks per round, dealing 2d8 + your Wisdom modifier radiant damage. As a reaction, it can impose disadvantage on an attack against an ally within 10 feet.
  • Healer Construct: It has an AC of 16 and 40 hit points. It can cast Healing Word and Cure Wounds at 3rd level and has a pool of healing equal to 5 times your level to distribute as you command.
  •

Sutra Invocation: Sutra of the Infinite Wheel

When you choose the Sutra Keeper path at 3rd level, you gain access to the Sutra of the Infinite Wheel.   Sutra of the Infinite Wheel As an action, you can recite this sutra to summon a spinning wheel of spiritual energy that moves in a straight line up to 60 feet long and 10 feet wide. Each creature in the line must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC, taking 6d8 radiant damage on a failed save or half as much on a successful one. Additionally, you can choose one condition (blinded, charmed, or frightened) and end it on all allies within the line’s path. Once you use this Sutra Invocation, you cannot do so again until you finish a short or long rest.
