On a hit, the target takes 1d8 radiant or necrotic damage (your choice), depending on the target’s alignment or past deeds (at DM’s discretion). If the creature has recently harmed you or an ally, it takes an additional 1 damage. The spell’s damage increases by one die when you reach 5th level (2d8), 11th level (3d8), and 17th level (4d8).
