Haniwashi

Haniwashi

The Haniwashi are skilled Onmyoji who craft Haniwa, mystical clay constructs imbued with spiritual essence. These artisans shape Haniwa to serve as guardians, warriors, and magical conduits. Haniwa can be molded to protect allies, assault enemies, or provide unique magical effects, making them versatile tools in the hands of a master. Through rituals and mystical shaping, the Haniwashi bring these clay figures to life, binding their spiritual energy to serve their Onmyoji’s will.

Craft Living Haniwa

At 3rd level, you are able to craft Haniwa constructs imbued with spiritual energy.   During a short or long rest, you can create up to two Haniwa constructs using clay and other materials (costing 25 gp per construct). Each Haniwa is a Small creature with AC, hit points, and attack rolls that scale with your level. You may choose one Haniwa Archetype for each construct:
  • Guardian Haniwa: Provides a +1 bonus to AC to an ally within 5 feet and can use its reaction to impose disadvantage on an attack targeting its protected ally.
  • Warrior Haniwa: Has a melee attack that deals 1d6 + your Wisdom modifier in damage and can make an additional attack when you reach 11th level.
  • Mystic Haniwa: Can deliver spells you cast with a range of touch as if it had cast the spell.
  •   You can command your Haniwa constructs as a bonus action, and they remain active until they are reduced to 0 hit points, destroyed, or dismissed.

    Spiritual Enchantment

At 6th level, you learn to infuse your Haniwa with additional magical properties.   When you create or take a short rest with your Haniwa, you can grant them one of the following enhancements:
  • Elemental Infusion: Choose an element (fire, cold, lightning). The Haniwa’s attacks deal an additional 1d6 damage of the chosen type.
  • Warding Clay: The Haniwa radiates an aura within 10 feet that grants allies a +1 bonus to saving throws.
  • Clay Resilience: The Haniwa gains temporary hit points equal to twice your Onmyoji level.
  •   You can enhance your Haniwa a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

    Haniwa Golem Ritual

At 11th level, you gain the ability to create a larger, more powerful Haniwa construct to aid you in battle.   As an action, you can perform a ritual to summon a Medium Haniwa Golem that lasts for 1 hour or until it is destroyed. The Haniwa Golem has the following features:
  • Golem Strike: The Golem makes two melee attacks, dealing 2d8 + your Wisdom modifier in damage.
  • Guardian’s Bulwark: The Golem can provide half cover to allies within 5 feet.
  • Channel Magic: The Golem can store and release a spell of 3rd level or lower that you cast into it.
  •   Once you use this feature, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.

    Master of Haniwa Creation

At 17th level, you reach the pinnacle of Haniwa mastery, creating powerful constructs with unique abilities.   You gain the ability to create a Greater Haniwa Construct during a long rest. Choose one of the following forms:
  • Haniwa Colossus: A Large construct with enhanced strength, capable of making three attacks and using Earthquake Smash (knocks all enemies within 10 feet prone).
  • Haniwa Sentinel: Grants resistance to one damage type of your choice to allies within 20 feet and has legendary actions (e.g., Attack, Defensive Shield).
  • Mystic Haniwa Avatar: Can cast a 4th-level spell once per rest, chosen when created, and provides advantage on spell attack rolls to allies within 30 feet.
  •   You can only have one Greater Haniwa Construct at a time. Creating a new one requires a long rest and 500 gp in materials.
