Eight Trigram Binding

  • Components: V, S, M (eight jade pieces inscribed with trigrams)
  • Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
  •   Description: You invoke the power of the Eight Trigrams, creating an intricate web of binding energy around a creature you can see within range. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is paralyzed and trapped in an illusory sphere marked with shifting trigrams. While trapped:
  • The creature takes 3d10 psychic damage at the start of each of its turns.
  • You can use a bonus action to command the trigrams to rotate, causing the creature to be moved 10 feet in a direction of your choice or causing disadvantage on any Wisdom saving throws it makes to break free.
  • If the creature succeeds on the save, it is restrained instead of paralyzed, and the spell’s effects weaken (no damage is dealt).
  • Ending the Binding: The spell ends early if you lose concentration, if the creature succeeds on a subsequent saving throw at the end of its turns, or if another creature breaks the trigrams with a successful dispel magic or by dealing at least 20 damage to them (AC 15).
